Just like the country it represents, the Philippine flag is unique. The three stars represent the three island groups, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The sun means the new period of self-perseverence. The blue stripe symbolizes peace and the red represents times when the country is at war. During times of war, the red band will be placed on top of the blue. Currently, the blue strip is on top which signifies that the Philippines is experiencing a peaceful period.
